Currently, one generator is out of service for repairs and the other generator is operating 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Currently, one generator is out of service for repairs and is expected to be out for most of the month.The other generator is operating 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Based on the National Weather Service forecast, the reservoir will continue to rise and spillway gates will have to be opened. PDF Posted July 16, 2007Toledo Bend Project Joint OperationAdvisory #2: Spillway Release NotificationThis is a spillway release notification message from Toledo Bend Project Joint Operation at Toledo Bend Reservoir. As of 12:00 Noon, July 16, 2007, the lake elevation was 172.51’ m.s.l. We now have five (5) spillway gates opened one (1) foot each and both generating units running twenty-four hours per day. Our total releases are 19,919 c.f.s. Interested persons should monitor current river and reservoir levels and reservoir release amounts since the river could reach flood stage and evacuation of persons, animals and property may become necessary. Toledo Bend Project offices as well as local sheriffs’ offices will be able to give the latest reported river stages and river forecasts received from the National Weather Service River Forecast Center. July 15, 2007, the elevation of Toledo Bend Reservoir was 172.41 m.s.l. with releases approximately 14,000 cfs. Additional releases through the spillway gates, depending on upstream and/or downstream conditions, are generally initiated when the reservoir elevation reaches 172.50’ m.s.l. with the first step being 5 gates at 1 ft. each for an additional 5,000 cfs release. Interested persons should monitor current river and reservoir levels and reservoir release amounts since the river could reach flood stage and evacuation of persons, animals and property may become necessary. Up-to-date reservoir elevations and releases may be obtained from the Toledo Bend Project Joint Operation offices at the Toledo Bend dam site on a twenty-four hour basis at 337/286-5253 or 409/565-2273. Once additional spillway releases begin, the local sheriffs’ offices, as well as the Toledo Bend Project offices will be able to give the last reported river stages and river forecasts received from the National Weather Service, River Forecast Center. Toledo Bend Reservoir is not a flood control reservoir, and can experience significant rises in reservoir elevation in a short time span, as much as one to two feet in a 24 to 36 hour period.
